Title: FD Cards and Venturing up FTW...
Post by: a_noble_kaz on August 29, 2010, 07:30:21 PM
I have I guess a simple question concerning FD specials. Can they be avoided with an AG?
I was talking with my brother about adding a single to make Wolverine truly great. We considered giving him an AS, AR, AD, you know, all the juicy stuff. Well I went to check the Marvels to see what he would have gotten, and lo there is the best FD to date as it does not allow concession. Well I got all exciting thinking about the possibilities of placing this card until you get a nice hand to go with it (thinking Canucklehead, Fighting Instinct, Wounded Animal, &tc) until I saw the wording "target character" on there. So are FD specials avoidable with AGs?

Yes, it can be avoided with an AG special. Anything that 'targets' a character can be beaten with a 'pure' avoid. (Unless, of course, for whatever reason specials can't be used to defend it.)

Wolverine's FD special is very nice indeed, even if it can be avoided.

For sure it is! Funny story about that, actually!

We were playing Partners ( http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=109.0 ) and some one got the Best Laid Plans EVENT from Fatal Attractions. So, I already had Wolverine's AS and an 8F powercard placed. So, I stacked his FD, a 6F, 7F, and AG.
-
The next hand I also drew his OB and a few other cards (7 total playable by Wolvie, + the 2 placed). I saw one of my opponents had The Hand and Capt. America left and already had a 7F powercard placed to The Hand...
-
So, I ventured up and played Wolverine's FD against Cap.America (figuring I knew he at least didn't have a 7F available for Cap...
-
Immediately as I play it, I go ahead and ask "It's avoidable, do you have Cap's avoid?" He says, "I have his avoid, but I don't want to avoid it." and he let's the Standoff begin...
-
I procede to rip. him. up! Handily killing the good Captain and winning the venture.
Moral of the story?
"I don't care if you're Captain - freakin' - America, you ALWAYS avoid a Standoff with Wolverine!!!"
LOL

Cute. As you can see, even with a limitation, it's a powerful card.

Haha... Always.:)

I wondered where that quip came from.  Now I know... and knowing is half the battle.
