Title: Looking for image of Overpower card back
Post by: Onslaught on September 17, 2010, 06:50:46 PM
Does anyone possibly have the original art used for the Overpower card back but without the logo on it? That's a bit of a long shot I guess. Does anyone with a scanner have a very high resolution image of the actual card back though? Thanks.

I only have a super high res of the card back. I'm trying to think of any OP related prints that would have just the Spider-Man and Wolverine in it, but nothing is coming to mind.

EDIT: The only thing that comes to mind are the metal prints, but scanning it would probably be messy since it's holographic. There's still a logo but it's at the bottom right.

Yeah I was trying to think if any of the comic books about the starter decks had the image without the logo on it. The closest I've come across is the original line art for the card art, but it's not colored and doesn't have a background.

Would you mind uploading your high resolution scan of the card back? Imgur.com will let you host really large files.

What kind of resolution do you want? I think I have it scanned at 2400 dpi and the file size is 150MB in PSD format.

Correction to the above, the resolution is only 1200dpi. The filesize is 143.8MB in PSD and was scanned from a Jumbo OP Hero, so the logo is smaller than the normal card backs. Samples:

Wow, amazing quality on that.

For now a 600 dpi version would be good, if possible. Thanks!

Which format do you want the picture in?

PNG or even the .PSD would be fine

Bump :D

I just got the card in the mail, one without the logo (kinda, the logo is displaced). I'm going to start work on it sometime week after my exams. Still want it Onslaught?

Yeah if you don't mind, anything like that I can always put to use in some harebrained photoshop project.

I'll try my best to get it at 4800DPI at 48-bit colours, just because I can.

I can't wait to get these scanned and Photoshopped.

I'd forgotten about that card. Not only is it larger but it's also slightly different dimensions to an OverPower card. You can see the whole of Spiderman's right foot and Wolverine's arms are normally cut off. As far as I remember it's on nice smooth cardstock and a good quality print so it should give a great scan. Nice find.

For 100 points: Who won the $5,000 OverPower kickoff tournament at the 1995 San Diego ComicCon?

Was it someone named John or Jeffery? I cheated, there was a dude on the newsgroup from UCSD who posted about Overpower a lot from 1995 to 1996...

Quote from: Mysterious San Diego Overpower Guru John/JefferyYes there were, I proctored/judged rounds 1-3 at the San Diego Comic Con.. I was told there
would be more sponsored fleer events in the future, don't know when though...
BTW, a 14 or 15 year old kid went home with the $5000 prize....

Ok so the guy who I thought might have won it was actually the judge for the event. Who the heck was the kid that won it all?!

I need to look this up (it's mentioned in one of the early 'Monthly' Ventures) but I'm pretty sure it was a guy named something like Harvey or Harley Pinneda. I actually met him at the 1996 San Diego Regional and he hadn't really been that into the game over the past year and had turned up with a deck full of universe cards etc. He didn't last long. Nice guy though and all power to him for grabbing an easy $5000 in 1995.

I was hoping the answer would be "and that 15 year old who won the first Overpower tournament went on to become...Kobe Bryant" or something.

Amazing.  Plus I am glad I am not the only one popping in here whilst I'm at work!

I lied, the scanner only does 2400DPI. At least I won't have to upscale the current picture I have to merge the two together.

Post Merge: July 11, 2011, 10:51:43 AM

Merging the two images seem to be a bit harder than I originally thought. There's less information from the standard card (original card cuts off at Wolverine's left ear, the promo card extends to show his right ear) and I just can't seem to merge it that way.

I'll keep trying.

Here's something to look at while I find a way to upload this huge file.

Notice how it's only 12.5% zoomed in. :P
