In overpower, there are considered to be "Overpower Characters" and "Weaker Characters", due to a combination of power-grid and special cards. However, even the weaker characters can be played competitively, in surprisingly good decks.
Gambit is one of these characters, that by himself, yes, would be considered weaker. However, if you put him in the right environment, he can be quite a powerful dude. I was looking for idea's to make Gambit more playable in a competitive atmosphere, and I came up with this:
Gambit, Starjammers, The Hand, Hawkeye (R), Outback, Infinity Gauntlet. (Or Bullseye in reserve w/ any heroes & shattered Image). Your opponent with be getting smashed by 8A Specials, Huge teamworks, and nice 'effect' special cards, to punish them with, if they didn't bring a negate to the table. Now all of the sudden, Gambit looks quite powerful as part of this TEAM, right?
Has anyone else thought of making Gambit the centerpiece of a competitive deck? What do you think of my deck idea, any idea's or suggestions? I am open for critique on this one.
Gambit is my favorite character. I'm probably the biggest Gambit fan there is, which is why I was able to come up with this deck
I used to use a deck like this with Nick Fury instead of Gambit, since he backs up The Hand's 6 intellect. Gambit brings another off color teamwork, which is always a nice addition.
This is the best Gambit deck I've ever seen, kudos on being the number one Gambit fan.
Why not Deathbird in the reserve?

Thanks, but that does NOT answer my question AT ALL. This thread is for Gambit Decks only, I don't care about Nick Fury, i'm not his #1 fan! Anyone have any idea's for GAMBIT DECKS?

I considered her, but I think the front-line's got a good enough grip on fighting defense. I thought Hawkeye's cards would compliment this deck better than DB's.
I'm really glad that you two are from California, and there is little chance that I would have to interact with either of you person to person.
Good Gambit deck though... but it looks like it may be vulnerable to DoW...

You use moves I've never seen before. I have much training left to do...
So, now we've sunk to mocking and condescension.
As Gambit's #1 fan, it doesn't bother you to put him on a team with The Hand (and possibly Bullseye)? I mean, I know they aren't the Assassins Guild, but they are an assassins' guild... how about completing the affront and putting Marauders or Sabretooth in for Starjammers?

Well, he's also a competitive Overpower player, and must balance the two mindsets. ;) Love of a character and the ability of the team to function as a whole.
Aside from using Danger Room as a base, I haven't really given much thought about putting Gambit on a deck myself. I loved that they gave him an 8 any power attack! Certainly pairing him with the other 8 any power characters is a good strategy...
Let me think on it and see if I can't come up with something fun.

Incidentally, I did pair Gambit with the Starjammers in a comic-related team.
Gambit / Starjammers / Jubilee / Deathbird for some Gambit & The X-Ternals fun! I used Age Of Apocalypse (of course) and AnyHeroes (because I found no suitable Battlesite that fit their AoA books well).
It worked pretty well. I did use the Super Soldier Serum on Jubilee, too. Getting it into play before Deathbird came up was pretty easy. It has good umph from Jubilee, too (w/THE MARVELS).

I have my Gambit team. It's a strange one, but I think I likes it! :D
Gambit, Callisto, Sentinels and Morlocks in reserve.
Battlesite: Concrete Jungle.
Mission: The Crossing.
I'll test it out online if I get OP online running again.

it's interesting that you put your max-8 in Reserve. Is that to kill Callisto?

Pretty much. I'll see if it works in testing. ;)

I was thinking of maybe working something around Charm.
Maybe a front line of Reavers, Gambit, X-Man with The Ray in reserve
Use Fatal Attractions to best laid plans your BJ/JW specials and an activator to maybe give you a venture boost... and bet large.
You should have enough D from X-man and Reavers to fight it out as well.
Would work even better if you could play Thief of Hearts in the same battle that Best Laid Plans is played

I like this concept. I might try it but with Gambit, X-Man, Reyes, and Magneto (R).
I'd go with Krakoa as the Battlesite, using Wolverine's FD as the OPD. Then, I could potentially get into a fight with any one of my front line in a STANDOFF with one of their front line, except they wouldn't be able to attack me. Krakoa has some other good defensive / card advantage cards in it, including Sunfire's SOLAR FLARE, which will get you a small Venture advantage, in case it goes down to a tie.
(you can, in fact, win a Venture with you at 0 and your in the negative, right?)
nope. No one can go negative. You would tie if you don't get any venture points.
oh. Well that is lame.
I suppose you could just go with OUTER SPACE and use Adam Warlock's FD card with Shi'Ar's +/- 3 to Venture total. That just would have the same X-flavor I so enjoy :P
Gotta love your team X dedication. lol
I'm an Avengers/Street level guy (Spidey, Daredevil, Punisher)
But I find that it can be tough coming up with a lot of competitive teams just using those guys... although at this point it seems as though everyone has been an avenger at some point.
Do you use X-men villains too? Or just the heroes?
i only us their villains if they've had a pretty significant stay as one-time heroes. so, i'll use a bunch of them in the theme of Age Of Apocalypse, since so many of them were flipped there. otherwise, i'll make other teams like the Fall's Edge Compound team, since Sabretooth and Mystique were both "tempered" with the headgear Forge made. ya dig? Bastion's right out! i have the Any Hero, but i actually use the X-Babies' AO for a proxy ;D

Actually, I'm not sure about that one. I have never read it anywhere that you can't go into negative venture....
If anyone has text to support that, I'd appreciate seeing it.

BBH, did you ever try out your Gambit team with Callisto, Sentinels, and Morlocks in R?
i have gambit rogue and storm teaming up with ghost rider
im having a hard time choosing a reservist tho
gambit and storm can alter ventured missions draw 1 card
To Rucker,
About liking street level heroes. We actually did a tournament once in the last few months of the tournament circuit where your team (although not battlesite) had to be based on a real comic theme. The tournament was in a comic shop so backing up your build was easy enough if challenged. Anyways, being the major Cap fan I am, I did a "Streets of Poison" team with Cap, Bullseye, Typhoid Mary and Black Widow in reserve that came in second. I was quite proud of it and it was one of the most fun tournaments I ever played in.
BTW if you haven't read it Streets of Poison is a tremendous six issue arc about Red Skull trying to take over Kingpin's crime territory and pulling all the Cap and DD characters into the mayhem. It is filled with lots of cool hero vs hero and villain vs villain fights (Cap vs DD, Diamondback vs Widow, Crossbones vs Bullseye, Kingpin vs Skull, plus the only Cap vs Bullseye fight I know of). Highly recommended reading.

Just perusing old topics and I came across this one, so I thought I'd update.
I actually did find a great Battlesite for this team: Wundagore Mountain. I only use the 4 X-Men, but I've found it to be quite enough, quite fun. Along the same lines of using a BJ/CW line up and getting Wolverine's FD into play (mentioned above), I've used the X-Ternals line up with the AX and DZ off my Battlesite to create "lock down" fights, along with Jubilee's AV and Starjammer's CH.
Also, I use Quicksilver's 11S as the OPD, because it's fun to kill some one with two cards (w/'Jammer's 11A) 8)
Hey Ncannelora,
I have a new Gambit team that I'm happy to test out against you, if you like. :)

Maybe we should do just that! now that I have a ps3 again, my wifey has a second way to watch Netflix, which would then make the laptop available to me and OPO again. I doubt it'll be tonight, but I'll get ahold of you the next time I get online to play :D
