Title: Dr. Strange - Necromancy and KO IA's
Post by: Palatinus on May 06, 2012, 08:21:41 PM
If a character is brought back by necromancy and they have an IA that triggers on KO does that ability trigger and if so, when?  E.g. scarlet witch, would her ability trigger in time to give your opponent -5 before ventured is counted?

ooh, good question! I "vote" yes. I think it's a cool trick and I think the character should be KO'd before counting Venture... then again, there are others, like Invisible Woman, who would give you the opposite benefit... dang... i still say KO before counting Venture.

I would like it to work so that the effect occurs,  but I can also see why it might now.  This actually applies to any events or specials that keep characters alive until the end of battle.

Discard phase happens after venture is determined, right?  Then I would say no.  It's a temporary effect brought on by a special, and the character isn't re-KO'd at the end of the battle they're brought back for.  Necromancy (and Shaman) state that the hero is to be "discarded" at the end of the battle.  Discarded != KO'd, so the character is removed during post-battle discard.

However, if the resurrected character is actually KO'd during the battle they're brought back for, then without a doubt the IA would take effect.

In a previous discussion involving KO's http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=737.0 it was determined that being put into the defeated heroes pile by means of a special did count as a KO for effects triggered by KO.  So just because the specials use the word discard does not immediately mean that they do not trigger KO effects.  There needs to be a more definitive answer.
