Title: HL Defensive or No?
Post by: Skeptic on June 22, 2012, 02:26:39 PM
Hello,

I'm new to the game, and a bit confused by HL coded cards. The wiki states:

"When played Offensively, this Special prevents an opponent's characters from attacking with Power Cards of a specified Power Type and #. When played defensively, it blocks an attack that contains the specified Power Type and # and prevents further attacks that battle from Power Cards of a specified Power Type and #."

However, the wiki also says on the sidebar "Defensive: No". The card itself doesn't seem to indicate that it can be used to block an attack. I'm seeking clarification.

Can I, for example, use Batman's "The Dark Knight" to block an intellect power card 6-8? Could it be used to block an intellect power card <6 if at all (I'm assuming no)?

I looked elsewhere on the messageboard and failed to find any guidance. I appreciate the help.

I'm not sure why the wiki describes that defensive move, but the answer is (sadly) no. Because it's restricting the "Opponent" it's considered an attack.

The flip side of that mechanic is buffing yourself (like with CD/AH/CN/BJ/CW type cards). because the effect isn't so much restricting your Opponent, as it is buffing yourself, those can be defensive.

The wiki's description of the code is correct as of Classic OverPower. The infobox on the right states the card cannot be used defensively. I haven't had time to comb through everything so there could be a lot of cards that have outdated information.

usually  :)

the toughest thing about these cards (the non-OPD versions) is it's hard to predict the opposition's strong suit (except it's almost never INT  ;)). Also, they can still defend with them, but you can side-step that with good timing and careful planning.
