Agh, apologies for the late jumping on of this, but I'd definitely be interested in a set if you're still accepting requests.  $20 sounds very reasonable.

Jack

I'm going to provide an update on this.

I'm just finishing off my final exams and I'll finishing up the cards by the end of August. I'm sourcing images from comic books (from ~1995 to 2002 since that's the era of OverPower) and I would really like it if you  (you as in everyone) can contribute to the project by submitting images that you think are good to use. Browse through your comic collections or subscribe to Marvel Digital Comics and help me look.

I didn't want to bring this up, but I am not putting a charge for my "labour" into the cost of this set. This project has already taken at least 40 hours of my time doing design work, font finding, discussion, image search and I'm not going to put additional fees into the Marvels set. The cost of the Marvels will be the exact cost it comes from the printer and shipping. My goal for OverPower is it to be a community and I would really appreciate it if you can help out in anyway.

I would be VERY INTERESTED in this, but i already printed a set of my own Marvels on real card stock. And besides $20 sounds real cheap, and that Spider-Girl art doesent seem to impress anyone compared to my hand-colored art i took from real OP artists. I like my Spider-Girl better...

These sets are $500 each, if interested.

Ever wonder why we call you Dr. Douche?

To be honest, I'd prefer to NOT do any work and just print cards with just border text and a black inner image.

After OverPower was cancelled, it lived on with dedicated people building small communities of players. Hell, if it weren't for community contributions, we wouldn't even know what types of cards were expected in the Marvels release. There has been many homemade versions of the Marvels created, each one distinctly different from each other, yours included. Most of them have stopped short of printing on card stock, others (yours) have gone through the process but as a limited print. BBH and I are doing our part to finish off the last step of the Marvels expansion saga by actually having the cards created, printed and distributed to whoever wants one. We're even ordering a bunch of extra sets so people will still have opportunities to buy them at a later time.

About your "hand-colored art", I don't give a shit about them. I'm very certain that yours will look much better than ours, I'm willing to admit that. I'm not an artist, heck, I'm barely even touching the colour picker when I use Photoshop to create these cards. I'm not looking to impress anyone with my choice of artwork, but I am willing to impress people with the effort I'm putting in to get these out to them. Other than the 9 images you've shown, nobody's really impressed with your work other than yourselves.

$20 isn't a reflection of the quality of the product; we're selling things at cost so that we can get these out to as many people as possible. We're also doing it to avoid legal troubles with the "profiting" of copyrighted materials. I'm pretty sure people wouldn't mind paying $50 for this set if that was the cost of the print. I could easily use the Marvels to recoup a lot of the costs I put into rebuilding the OverPower community but I'm not going to do that.

Kyoujin

Ideally, how would we pay you for the sets, Jack?

I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all really appreciate what you're doing for us and the community.

Keep up the good work!

Jack

BBH is taking care of that portion of the project. I'd imagine it would be Paypal or in-person cash transactions.

Hey whats with the name calling, bro? I just stated my opinion, I didn't make a personal attack on you. If i was making a personal attack on you i woulda said "hey fatass, your cards look bad, your better off spending 40 hours on the treadmill instead of making these. You dont know how to play the game well, so you try and be big in the community by making websites, and mastering the rulebook. Lets face it Jack... you are a judge, not a player. Plus, the reason you obsessively collect old rules snippets is because its the only way you can be relevant at SOMETHING about this game. Its also funny to me to see you collect every little scarp of paper related to overpower when you werent even around when the game was going on. Another attempt to feel connected to the game since you are so bad at playing it. Those papers/posters/monthlyventures were just commonly accessed things to me back in the day, with 200 of them sitting on a table to take for free during a tournament, but nobody wanted them. So stop collecting all of the weird things a nostalgic overpower player would collect, when you picked up a Mutants Unite starter in 2007." I would say that and "Oh, and by the way are you available to judge my weekly overpower gatherings in California? Oh wait, we could just printout the rulebook, sorry we dont need you anymore."  :P

Yep, thats definitely what i would of said.

PS: I want a set, $20 seems like a bargain, count me in.

Dude, you are so wrong... If you don't care about community, try playing solitaire games. Last time I checked, the game was dead and the people who still play it do it for fun. And that obsession about being a good player doesn't seem to fit this scenario.

I don't know if you consider yourself a top player, but it really doesn't matter. Would your uncle congratulate you if you ever win a OP tournament? Or would you proudly tell your co-workers that you are an OP player? Probably not... it really doesn't mean anything.

I agree that Jack overreacted, but hitting back as hard as you did wouldn't help either. Jack does a great job indeed, and its not only my opinion, lots of people are saying it all the time at the forum.

Try to reconsider your way of thinking. There is no reason to segregate a group as small as our is today.

breadmaster

so now we're at personal attacks, huh?  what a sorry state

you know what's funny...someone who repeatedly mocked others' play styles/deck building, then when an opportunity came along to back up their words, used a team that was generic over a decade ago.

then used their 'superior' play style to place that team in the middle of the very people he was mocking.

When did the price go from $300 to $500?

I'm happy to help Jack. Just point me in the right direction and I'll get working.

I know, man, that was messed up Jack called me that. I think i deserve an apology. As a man who has found god (thats to nick candeloras), i am willing to forgive him.

Jack

I probably made that comment with poor consideration of the consequences. I really didn't like your tone in that post where you blatantly attacked this project by showcasing your own. Regardless, I still apologize for calling you Dr. Douche.

Yes, I do collect random pieces of OverPower memorabilia but the collection I'm building is all going to be put into the Wiki at one point or another. What I'm doing now is no different than what Norm Barth, Nick Williams, GDMJR and others have done in the past; all I'm really doing is summarizing and continuing what they have done so it becomes easily accessible.

I will only ship you a set of our Marvels if I receive an apology for your "personal attack" on me.

I would like to update everyone on the cards.

These are the final versions of the border design with the black images as temporaries until I find the right images.

breadmaster

jack, do you have a list of the characters you already have images selected for?

Jack

None of them are final but the characters with candidate images are:

Adam Warlock
Banshee
Bishop
Captain America
Colossus
Hawkeye
Icemn
Marrow
Multiple Man
Nick Fury
Professor X
Psylocke
Spider-Girl
Starjammers
Storm
Thor
Thunderbolts
Wolverine
X-Man
X-Men: OT

I have a few others but those images are extremely "weak" in terms of expression of the card.
