Without proxy cards

In my circle, and certainly with OPOnline, use of proxy cards has never been an issue, but recently I built a deck and I realized it only had 1proxy card! This is primarily because it was a themed deck and I wouldn't break canon, so the only uber-rare card it used was a power card (5M). When I realized this, i quickly took it out and began some play testing and it's done pretty well over all. Then I began considering what other "pure" decks I might be able to build with my meager collection.

This leads me to ask 2 questions,

1) which is worse, using Any Heroes without a DoW, or a Battlesite without Beyonder?

2) what's the best deck you've built without using any really expensive cards (say, >$25)?

anys without dow is far worse.  dow is what makes any viable against sites.  beyonde is a helpful activator, but not essential

i've never built a deck without proxies, so i can't speak to the second point.

Cards like A-Next and the 5 Multi are helpful, but not essential, just like the Beyonder. I'd say that any deck with cards released pre-Image set is quite affordable (except for Heroes for Hire and some promos, I guess). Sites are not expensive either, since you can use 3 grid characters most times.

Captain America, Super Patriot, Beast: Brute and Sabretooth (Reserve) is a good choice if you want something cheap.

BlueFire

I always like seeing the real cards when I look at my hand.  Makes it feel more like a real game (that's still supported :)
