so, in another topic, http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=799.0
I discussed how I'd built a team around the OJ-Coded specials from The MARVELS:

Alpha - MADISON JEFFRIES "Acts as a level 10 Any-Power attack. May be used against Battlesite. If used against Battlesite, damage counts toward Venture total." OPD

Domino - DEMOLITIONS "Acts as a level 6 Intellect. May be used against Battlesite. If used against Battlesite, damage counts toward Venture total."

Shadowcat - Phased Disruption "Acts as a level 6 Fighting attack. May be used against Battlesite. If used against Battlesite, damage counts toward Venture total."

in the past, I had built this deck using Any Heroes and D.Phoenix Saga (reshuffle, shift to Rsv, remove E icon hits) and this line up:

[Alpha Flight] [Domino3] [Shadowcat:AoA]
                    [Sabretooth]

But, when I was looking to build this deck again, it occurred to me that I might be missing two important strategies:
1) I have no real strategy against an Any Hero opponent
2) I may be missing out on a great potential marriage of an Inherent Ability and a Special card...

I've built a team using Marrow and Cable to make use of her Morlock History card, which doubles the value of INT Power cards on a target (for KO, not Venture) and I really enjoyed that added element. I've also used Storm with an all-INT low-end Power Pack and saw how great that can be down the stretch - so why have I never seen this potential in the above Front Line?

Quote* DOMINO  <IQ> {R}                           E: 4   F: 7   S: 3   I: 5   (19)
~ Energy Power cards are +2 when used for defense. ~

  * ALPHA FLIGHT  <MN> {R}                     E: 4   F: 7   S: 4   I: 6   (21)
     * MURMUR (KD) <CL> {U} [OPD]
All Energy Power Card Hits on Target Character are doubled when
determining Cumulative K.O. for remainder of game. Does not count
            toward Venture Total.

So, the first thing I realize is that I'm losing out on one of my max-8 characters by switching to the IQ Domino. I could offset this by swapping out Shadowcat, but then I also have to find a cheaper max-8 for Reserve and I realize that Sabretooth isn't really bringing anything to the concept of decimating a Battlesite... so I'm at 58 points up front and I need a Fighter with a 4E or higher on their grid so they can make use of the same low-end Power Pack that the Front will have...

Enter - MAGGOT!!

A seldom-used, but surprisingly useful character! Not only does he fit the grids (4E 6F 4S 4I) but he also has a sa-weet Special from the MARVELS set, which is also playable from Reserve, plus also it fits the theme of destroying the Battlesite!

"Acts as a level 5 Energy attack. If successful, Maggot may sort through Opponent's Battlesite and discard any 2 Special cards. May be played from Reserve."

Now that I'm throwing around Energy like I'm Vulcan or something (stupid 3rd brother!), I for sure cannot run the Remove E icon hits Event... then I'm also trying to develop an anti-AnyHero strategy to go along with my anti-Battlesite... so it stand to reason that I need a Battlesite of my own and to chuck the D.Phoenix Saga all together. Now we're cookin!

The first, obvious choice for Events is to go back to Infinity Gauntlet. Despite the fact that my top-end Power Pack surely has a lot of Fighting Power cards, this Event set still gives me 2 very, very useful cards -
Resurrect 1 KO'd Hero
No Any Hero cards may be played this battle.

From here, I need to figure my Battlesite. I think there are a few out there that can be really good. Obviously, The Outback offers great defense and also has a few great tools in the GA, GL, and HK cards - in terms of trying to get my Specials to land on that Battlesite... but alas, I don't use Reavers because bad guys are losers  ;)

So, I settle on one of my favorite Battlesites, Danger Room.

This offers me a few things. Firstly, a negate from Beast. Secondly, a few "get off me" cards to use with Alpha Flight, so they can make better use of their AD avoids... but then I had another thought - my default OPD for this deck is ALWAYS Gambit's Charm card (BJ-code) - a great OPD to be sure. But, I'm thinking two things about this deck/theme/rebuild -
1) I'm trying to plan against Any Heroes
2) I'm using the Resurrect Event...

So, the OPD is going to be:
Quote* TEMPORAL ANOMALY (HD) <IQ> {VR} [OPD]
Sort through Defeated Heroes Pile and remove 1 Event card. Put Event
card into Draw Pile. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

So here's my new deck, built around the OJ coded Special from The MARVELS, giving a fairly unique strategy allowing the ability to attack a Battlesite head-on, without the use of Any Heroes, allowing me an additional strategy against Any Heroes through my Event (twice?!).

[Alpha Flight]   [Domino]    [Shadowcat:AoA]  [Danger Room]
10a 9m KD        6i 6i BV           6f 6f HQ              ang AG 6e
AD AD             AM BS             AD                      bea CD AO
                                                                          bsh  AY HD (opd)
                      [Maggot]                                      gam 8A 2/8
                         5e 7s                                         ice   AD 6f
                                                                          rog   AC 6e
Teamworks: 6E+fi, 7F+ei, 6F+ei, 6I+ef                        *Beyonder
Power card: 7ffa, 6ffa, 5fma, 4eem, 3eem, 2ee, 1ee
Aspect/Artifact: A-Next, Image Inducer
Events: Resurrect 1 KO'd Hero, No Any Heroes may be played

That's a wrap! now I just gotta get it actually built IRL or in OPO and give it a whirl!! feedback welcome  ;)

Wow.  Solid.  Sounds interesting Ncann.  Thanks for the insight into how you build.  I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever analyzed a deck to such a degree (which might explain my win-lose record, lol)  You'll have to play test it and report back.

So how did this deck work out for you?

you know, I still haven't had the chance to use this deck! I'm going to try and avail myself to playing OPO at a set time, and see if I can get some games going on a regular basis. Maybe even roll out a tournament!  ;D

seems like Alpha Flight might take a lot of direct heat with that front line... maybe some one who can defend from Reserve, then?
