Thor and Iron Man

It makes me crazy that Iron Man's picture is on the Avengers Mansion location, but he isn't listed on the card.

I'd like to make an Iron Man/Thor team, but it seems it would require the X-Babies and a 16 character to be tournament legal. What about using 3 stat characters? Anyone have any suggestions?

Nostalgic

Yea I think the put Ironman on there to say they knew he was on the team but perhaps it would be too powerful. Think about it. Thor, Ironman, and the Hulk!  :o

Same thing with the danger room and Wolverine's picture...

Oh I didn't think of Wolverine/Danger Room. I'm seeing a new Koz house rule taking form... if your image is on the location card, it's as good as your name being printed!   :P

I like that house rule  ;D

Now if you are wanting to stay X-Babies free, here are the couple teams that I have built before.

Focus on Strength
Iron Man (IQ)
Thor (IQ)
Doc Samson (3Stat)
Morbius (3Stat)
or
Focus on Energy - bad for IM but fun to play
Iron Man (IQ)
Thor (IQ)
Magneto (3Stat)
Prof X (3 Stat)

Also, a nice alternative to getting a paire of high-stat characters on the same team, but avoid X-Babies, is to use 3-Stat Morph in Reserve, using his Substitute Death Special. If you can plan to get your opponent to use up their negates before Morph comes up, it's like giving a 1Up to a front line character. He's only 10 points as a 3-stat, so he saves as much as X-Babies do  ;)

I thought about Morph when I popped these teams out, but I think I originally stuck with them the way they were because Morph had the high fighting as opposed to the energy or strength....but I do not disagree with how big of an asset he could be on a team like this....

that is a bit unique, but he also affords you a 17 pointer, so you could go something like:

      [Thor]    [IronMan]   [Beast:TheBrute]
                    [3Morph]

That backs up the 6F, affording you a power card there if you'd like, but also let's you back up a 6F Teamwork if you wanted.

As a side note, when I was playing Original/PowerSurge OP, I used to build this team a lot because I liked the Spectrum possibilities and also had some Avengers flavor:

      [3Thor]    [3IronMan]   [3SpiderWoman]
                  [3WarMachine]

I like the thought of Morph a little more with your Beast: The Brute concept. I must admit I considered Beast (3Stat) but Brute never crossed my team forming thoughts.

Interesting thought going the all 3-stat route (I understand that it was PS), I just don't think my personal preferences would let me play both IM and Thor on the same team without at least one of them being the IQ version - but again that is just my personal preference.

Oh for sure - 3Stat Thor is a serious injustice!!

LOL! That's actually exactly who I was talking about! But hey, if you were to play the 3 stat he does get that nice Gift of the Gods to give him that 8 Energy....of course you could skip the hassle and play the IQ

Thor is one of those that makes me a tiny bit sad. I look at the 3 Stat and I want to punch him in the face (yes! punch 3stat Thor in the face  ::)) because he is just awful, but in the turning point he is great as an IQ, but the GotG's special is almost a waste to increase his Energy by 1.

I had an idea for Thor IQ, Iron Man 3 stat, Morph 3 stat and Jubilee 3 stat. Kind of weak on power grid, but maybe with some artifacts it could go better. Jubilee has some worthwhile specials that could make her a sacrificial lamb.

With the Substitute Death, can you play that anytime after the character is KOd or does it have to be immediately after the KO?

edit:  Nevermind
Character playing this Special is KO'd and a KO'd hero is returned to the Front Line immediately. Any hits from Current Battle or on Permanent Record of the character playing the Special are now considered Hits in the same locations on the character returned to play. No other cards are returned to play. This Special may only be played on a player's turn. It may not be played during an opponent's turn. This Special does not need to be played during the battle that a character is KO'd

Not a bad team, my preference for that would be to add back in the IQ Iron Man and replace Jubilee (just my preference - I prefer her IQ). By adding back in Iron Man for 3 more points, you move from a 13-rank team to a 14-rank which takes you from a 62 point total to a 67 point total which is plenty of room for Iron Man IQ and you'd have an additional couple points to raise up another teammate.

The only time I ever use 3-Stat Thor now is on my max-6 Strength Team. It came together by default when I wanted to challenge myself with another max-6 deck, but strength based, and I realized I only had the cards to do it with 4 people (3Beast, 3Thor, 3Cable, 3StrongGuy[R]).

Also, yes, God Of Thunder is a very questionable card when his E is already a 7; however, I have put that card to fantastic use in the past with a team that had the only 8E grid in Reserve!! I also had Bishop's AY under a battlesite. So, if I got AY early, I'd place it to THOR, which would let me keep any 8E Power Cards in hand, and he could use it, or another character could if I got Bishop's AY on them! it was a neat and, admittedly unexpected, trick  ;D

Very Crafty....almost makes the Thor (3stat) useful for me....almost  :P
