A Vibrant, Dynamic OP "Community"? It's up to you.

Well fellow OP Fanatics, what do you think?

Do we really want to have a vital, dynamic OP community, or are we just a bunch of die-hard hangers on who can't move on?

I've been asking myself this for a while now. I definitely think it's POSSIBLE to establish a vibrant, dynamic OP community, even now more than a decade after the game's "official" demise. But WE have to want to, and have to do our part to make it happen.

Palatinus has done all the heavy lifting for us by establishing and maintaining this forum. From there it's up to the rest of us.

So, what am I aiming at here?

I definitely believe that there are plenty of people out there who still play OP, and would be interested in hooking up with others like them. I get e-mail from them all the time as a result of my eBay activities and my Homemade web site. There really are people out there who are still excited about OP and would love to hang with others who are too.

One thing I've noticed though. I check in here almost every day. There are almost always visitors here when I do. But they never seem to register and start posting, and I think the main reason is that there just isn't much activity here on the part of we actual members. There have been times that I've logged on here and seen as many as eight ( 8 ) visitors with myself the only member. Usually, there's a lot more visitors here just after new postings.

And that's where we come in.

I honestly believe that a lot of those people pop in here to check things out, see how little activity there is and just go on their merry way thinking it just isn't worth the time and effort to bother joining and posting.

But what if we made a real effort to actually keep some conversations going for more than a day or two? Do you think more people might actually join up and start participating?

I do. It wouldn't take much on our part. Just popping in every day or so and posting a quick comment, or responding to one left by someone else. The more activity, the higher the SE ranking, and I believe the more interest we'll generate among all those visitors that haven't yet jumped in.

Are we up to it? Or are we content to just leave things as is, and let OP continue to just gradually fade away? Is it worth a try to at least test my theory?

I know where I stand on all this. What about you?

OP LIVES!

Well, we had 8 people viewing this forum at one time today. I wasn't here at the time, but I'd bet most of them were not registered members. I still think it's worth a try to establish a truly vital OP community, and I still think all it would take is a few posts a day total to get the ball rolling.

Any takers?
