my mom recently told me she loves Robert Downey Jr., and, by association, Iron Man. In the interest of broadening her horizons a little and also getting her to use some other characters she actually likes, I thought I'd look into making her an Iron Man deck. The only problem is, once I'm outside my X-Men comfort zone, I tend to get a little lost  :P

Anyway, I'm looking for help making her a solid, fairly vanilla deck around Iron Man. I say fairly vanilla because she doesn't like having to set up any crazy tricks, she just likes picking up and playing. So far, these are the decks she's used...

Dept H (A.Flight, Wolvie, Sabes, Mav[R]), with Danger Room battlesite.
- she said she didn't really like battlesites, so we switched to
Nightcrawler, X-Man, Scarlet Witch, Magneto[R], Any Heroes.
- she had a lot of fun with this deck, but I wanted to make it a little stronger, so I shortly changed it to
Invisible Woman, X-Man, Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange [R]

That's just an idea of her play experience, or comfort zone, if you will. I'm open to lots of ideas, as is she. Suggestions?

(btw, she's mostly familiar with the Marvel Movie Stars, but she's still willing to use others, of course)

A simple, yet reasonably effective and fun team with Iron Man is an Illuminati based deck:

Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man, Prof. X and Dr. Strange in the reserve.

It works well with either Any Heroes or Battlesite. It makes REALLY good use of 'The Marvels' special cards.

You're heavy on TWs, All the energy TWs are backed up, and 2 of the Intellect teamworks are backed. Iron Man has two independent teamworks that can count as part of his card complement.

The specials work really well, Multi 8s, a draw 3, Team co-ordination. Avoids etc. Basic variety but no real 'tricks.'  Great for a casual player.

And 3 of the 4 characters have been played by big stars - Ioan Gruffudd, Patrick Stewart and Of course, Robert Downey Jr. ;)

A Dr. Strange movie is in the works... so who knows!

Enjoy!

no joke, I was actually scratching out this exact roster on paper at my desk at work this morning! lol
I think it's actually how I'll take it. She's been using Dr.S from Reserve for a little bit, now, so she's pretty familiar. Also, I made a duplicate of Mr.Fantastic that's actually Phineas & Ferb, so she might want to use them instead  ;)

otherwise, it looks like a decent, simple deck. Thanks for the corraboration!

duh  ;D

I thought of using Stark Enterprises except for two things -
first, it makes for a pretty mixed grid. That gets more complicated, making it less fun for her.
second, she doesn't especially know the people on that team.

It's not a bad notion, though. Going with WarMachine, IronMan, CapAmerica, Hawkeye[R] can be pretty solid. Not that she can't use Scarlet Witch (she's familiar, since she's been on her teams before), but she throws the grids off  :-\

Something to try with Stark Enterprises, that I found fun, was to use Scarlet Witch, Spider Woman and Iron man in the Front line to maximize your use of the Inherent ability.

That particular front line makes the team an absolute bane against fighting decks, because you can absorb all single icon fighting attacks without worry.

Throw an image inducer in to shift single suit strength and fighting hits to pile up on Scarlet witch. A great anti-Heroes for Hire deck. ;)

That, of course, is the best case scenario, but it's an interesting trick.

I'm gonna mull this over a bit. I think my mom is really enjoying her current deck, though, so there's no urgency. She did see Avengers, finally, so she's a little more familiar with Hawkeye and Black Widow, at least  ;)
