The BE Special cards

I thought this was covered somewhere, but I can't find it.  Carnage, Sabretooth and Wolverine all have character specific BE Special cards, and the Any Characters have a BE Special card.  I understand why the Any Character Special card is OPD, as all Any Character Specials, with the exception of the AL, are OPD, even if the Character specific versions of the Any Character Specials are not OPD.  My question more deals with the 3 Character Specific BE Specials.

Carnage and Sabretooh's BE Special cards are both tagged with the One Per Deck identifier.  The Wolverine BE Special, which was released in a more current set, is worded EXACTLY like the BE's for both Carnage and Sabretooth, however, Wolverine's is NOT an OPD Special.

Oversight in the printing of the Wolverine BE?  Change in the ruling of all the BE Specials, similar to the HQ Specials?  Just a perk to playing Wolverine over either of the other two if you plan to make use of that specific Special?

I ask because, looking over the Battlesite Lookup tool on the Overpower.ca site, I noticed that the BE Special is Sabretooth's ONLY OPD special, and it strikes me as odd that his ONLY OPD is a NON-OPD for another character, even though they have the same text, one was simply printed a set before the other.

This would be a good question to bug Steve Domzalski about if he comes back to post.

My guess is that it was determined it would be better off non-OPD after the Original set and they didn't bother changing the old BE's.

Blanket errata making them all nonOPD?

Does anyone use these cards?  Effectively?

Jack

I hardly see them used.

I used to throw one into Outbacks for Wolverine but that was quickly replaced by Wolverine's Megapower when I got one. So it's likely a non issue to make them non-OPD if and when we decide to do a rules update.

Demacus

I think they were pretty much replaced by the EI Special cards, which came out later, tying a low level stat attack to the Special that is allowed to be played after a concession.

Also, EI Special cards are ALSO Non-One-Per-Deck Specials, which just adds a drop more fuel to the thought that Carnage and Sabretooth's BE should probably not be considered OPD either, save for the fact that they can throw ANY legal attack in their hand, these cards do not come up all that often...

This topic was discussed a little bit here

the main difference would be whether or not you allow these to fall under the "duration rule"  ;)

I like these under the duration rule. I feel like it gives Sabretooth a really good OPD, and Carnage, both of whom could use it. While the Any Character might become extra-good, I just don't feel like making the BE Specials game-lasting is game-breaking. The Any Hero version just becomes a Shadowhelmet that can be used by anyone and can also be negated.

Also, thetrooper27, I used them both (and Shadow Helmet) in my Department H(ighlander) deck. They were mostly filler, but I did get a great KO out of Shadow Helmet in one game... as any gambler can tell you, if it works once, you tend to chase it thereafter  ;D

I always wanted to use Shadow Helmet.:)

Hmm... I never considered that these fall under the remainder of game duration since they're OPD.  Is this OverPower official?

no, officially the game-lasting-per-oneperdeck does not apply to this code  :-\

Hmm... ya know, there really is NO consistency in OverPower, and I strongly suggest some changes in the rules.  I know everyone wants to keep it as close to the actual calls, but after as much discussion and debate that has taken place on the forums, it's crystal clear that the game is broken, but could be mended by the wonderful suggestions that have already been made by many members here in the community.  You could always make a guide for tournament rulings and errata.
