as a sister-topic to the best high grid team, what do you think would be a good low gird team

prof x (3)
morph (3)
xbabies
magneto (3/reserve)

this team leaves 15 points to spare (vs 18 for the 4 '10' characters)

what other hidden gems are out there?

Hmm... How low are we talking? I agree Prof X original and X-Babies are great choices. I think i would finish with Shadow King and Reyes. But it depends on how low you want to go, that deck is 62 points, so i am 14 under.

PS: There is also this homemade I have been using, Gambit: The Vegetable he costs 4 (1-1-1-1), but has a inherent that he can use any power card in the game. He would work quite well in this format.

I like to use the following four characters (all 16 points each):

Puppet Master (6-3-1-6): AR (2x), BQ, HB, JQ, LS

Reyes (6-2-2-6): AL, BJ, CC (2x), EE, KR

Shadow King (7-1-1-7): HY (3x), KK, LO, MF, NU

Mojo (6-3-1-6):  AO, CP, HO

I place Mojo in reserve. All three front line characters have great specials, and Mojo has an AO which is always nice to have. I've played this deck with Any Heroes and using a Battlesite and I've done well with it using either approach. My opponent usually focuses on Shadow King or Reyes first, so I'll use King's MF on Puppet Master or I'll use it on Mojo if Reyes is taken out first.  I've used as many as four HY specials because it's either getting blocked or my opponent is taking the hit and losing two cards.

It's a fun deck to play.

Edit: As a sidenote, I don't use the 3 stat characters for anything except activators. Once IQ was released, the three stat guys were banned from being used in our group. We just thought it was too cheap a way to sneak in some powerful characters onto teams and we wanted all characters to be uniform with four stat grids.

I like the sound of your deck, but this stipulation on character usage is what really stood out to me... I think it's because I've always kinda felt that way, but never really voiced it. When I saw Magneto3 and Beyonder on the same team for the first time... it just feels cheap, I guess.

Anyway, kudos for a pretty original deck there :)

Yep, I agree 100% and the group of people I played with also felt the same way, for us it was really more of a natural progression from the 3-stat characters to all 4-stat once IQ was released. I know the sum deck rule reduces the overall points allowed for a team if a 3-stat character is used, but it always felt cheap to me, especially those Beyonder/Magneto 3-stat decks or Spider-Woman 3-stat (a good character pre and post IQ) decks.

Then again, when playing casually, our group also would make sure that we didn't go against any duplicate characters when deck building. So if I was using Captain America the other player could use Superpatriot but not another Cap. Of course, when the full group was together and we had mini tournaments, this rule went out the window, and you'd sometimes see some old standbys like Marauders and X-Babies show up in multiple decks.
