Discarding for HY special

I was playing last weekend and used Shadow King's HY special (6 int, if successful opponent must discard 2).

I KOed his hero with the card, and he had one placed card on him. He argued that he should get to count that placed card as one of his discards. I disagreed since that card is gone after the KO.

I let him have it since I was winning, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Opinions?

I'm not an official, or anything, but my opinion is you were right. On two counts, since you were also right to let him have his way when he was losing. good sport.

When you KO a character, placed cards go with them. Your opponent would have to discard 2 cards from hand.
