Sister's Support - Zealot

Here's a question on Zealot's "Sister Support" (and Spider-Girl's version too). How do other people play this card?

I always assumed you played it offensively with the Power card onto yourself to keep future duplicates (basically making it a power-up like AY or Leader's "Freehold" or an Artifact). And thus leaving the Powercard in question tucked with it for future reference on which duplicates are allowed.

However since it just says play with a Power card I could see an interpretation where you attach the special to a normal attack or defense and the get the duplication bonus from that action (assuming in the case of attack that the attack was successful)

Are one or both of these interpretations correct?

Jack

The drawback of playing cards like these as an attack is that if the attack is blocked, the card is also discarded. Playing it with a defense would keep the effect of the card (like how you would play a BG card).

I could be wrong.

To me the correct interpretation would be to play it as an effect, not an action, sacrificing the power card in question. This is the main reason why I left it out of my Zealot deck - I'd rather not waste the power card, and if you throw in extra power cards of that type and value to compensate, you risk getting dupes before the special comes up which would defeat the purpose.

However, using it as an attack or defense would definitely make it playable for me. If I had to choose, I'd rule it as attack only, as it would seem a bit powerful to get the effect for free on defense (maybe make it OPD in that case). A good candidate for house rule/homemade, methinks.

The Dude

See i've played it as an effect as well and it's always been kind of useless for the reasons you outlined but it occurred to me based on the wording and the way other cards with similar wording are played that the second option could be possible which is I posed the question

Jack

I have no idea what I was thinking, the card can't be used as an attack. Only cards that say "Play with _ attack" can be used together.

I should really focus on studying instead of trying to respond to these posts...

I should probably also get back to work instead of checking the forums....

play an 8 to keep duplicate 8's for remainder of game
sounds like a winner to me

it doesnt say "play with any usable power card as an attack"
its called sister support
not
sister attack  ;)

But if you stack up on both 8's or this card itself to maximize it's effect, the potential dupes without getting the card first don't really make it worth it to me. Not to mention the fact that she has some awesome specials that could take this one's place anyway, and from my experience zealot's the kind of character you want to target first for that reason, so you have to be careful how many specials you give her.

At the end of the day, it's definitely a fun strat to run if you get the effect out early, but I wouldn't put it in a serious deck. Maybe I'll try it out next time I get around to playing.

Has anyone found this card to be benefital yet? I recently built a Zealot deck and I was planning on playing it as a defense or as an effect but now I kind of see a pattern as a drawback to it.  Does anyone like it that plays Zealot?

The way we've always played these cards is that the PC is still discarded after the special is played, but it's not an attack or defensive action. While I don't think anyone has flooded their decks with the PC they hope to keep, it's been a pretty good strategy if your deck is trying to make it to the Power Pack phase of the game.

I will definitely keep that in mind. And I will probably use it as merely an effect sense that seems to be the largest consensus.  Thanks!

I have used Sisters Support, and I've seen it used, to somewhat worthy effect. However, I'd have to say that it doesn't usually make it into my Zealot decks. I currently have a femme fatale deck feat. Zealot, Wonder Woman, Elektra, and Sabra. The only cards I use for Zealot are Wildcat x3, Warrior Soul, Kheribum, and an 8f teamwork. I just can't bring myself to give her 7 exclusive cards, and I certainly don't want to take any of the others out for Sisters Support. In fact, I usually only use that card in Partners Play when you have more opportunities to play interesting cards.

Isn't the 8F Teamwork usable by Wonder Woman? So, Sister Support would be her 6th exclusive card...?
