Hello,

Is anyone here that plays overpower going to be attending the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con? Myself and a few of my friends will be there and bringing a few decks each to play some good old fashioned overpower in the game rooms. Anyone that is going to comic-con is welcome to meet up with us to play, and if we get enough people, perhaps we could make a miniature tournament? So far we have 3 people that will be bringing 3 decks each. Who else is coming?

It's rare to find a group of people who want to play overpower live-in-person (Being able to see the cards in front of you and touching them is so much better than playing online). I look forward to venturing against some of you at the convention!

The more people that are interesting in playing, the better. Please let me know if you are attending and interested in playing a few games.

I'll be there with a few decks, hopefully a few more people show up for me to demolish :^)

Great! Maybe we will set up a time and day to meet in one of the game rooms and i can win our game by venture and KO at the same time.

Fitting statement given your alias...  :D

If you want a pretty high resolution Marvel OverPower logo to make a big banner to draw attention to your room, I can provide one.

Probably no need for a large overpower banner since we wont have an "official" overpower room. But a big overpower banner would be cool to have! Will you be attending to comic-con?

If you want to provide the banner I will put it up, and provide pics to everyone on the board of some of our matches, maybe even take a few games back to the hotel room after a few drinks ;-)

Onslaught

Actually there's a general gaming area that anyone can claim a tables at, so a huge Overpower banner would be great to attract other players...or at the very least draw some attention from people who might be interested in the game. I could then tell them where to buy cards online and direct them to this website, gotta start somewhere!

Anyway yeah, I think that banner would be of great use at Comic Con.

drdeath25

I would love to take the banner home with me after ;-)

If anyone else wants to bring it home with them, you are welcome to challenge me to a game, winner take all ;-)

Jack

I won't be attending comic-con, but I'm willing to send the image to anyone that wants to get the banner printed out. The image should be able to print on a decent sized banner while still retaining picture quality.

I would absolutely love to, but San Diego is unfortunately a tad far for me.

Bummer! I was at Comic Con 2010 (have been attending it every year for the past decade) and too bad I didn't know about you guys being there. I would have liked to watch how you guys played Overpower and learn all the new strategies involved and how to play with Location cards. I'm going this year so if anyone from these forums returns to the convention then I wouldn' t mind being "demolished" by all the pros.

drdeath25

Nate,

All the  same overpower players from last year will be attending again this year, we would love to play a few games with you and see if we could teach eachother a few things.

I'm down for that, although it'll probably be you guys teaching me everything.  ;D

I did play in an Overpower Tournament at Comic Con way back in the day. I think it was '96 and PowerSurge had already come out. It was my first and only time I played at a tournament. I sucked so bad that I was too intimidated to continue playing in tournaments. It was a big learning experience for me though. Back then I wasn't into the strategy of the game but just used characters that I liked reading about in the comics. I actually won my first match but then got clobbered by an all Energy deck and then massacred by an all Strength deck. I learned its best to build teams around a certain power type.

Well, we can definitely teach you some of the basic strategies that competitive decks were built around during the time when the game died.

Of course, one of the things we were looking at this year to spice things up, was Onslaught's "Overpower as a Board Game", which is basically playing games with only cards from Original, Power Surge, and Mission Control being allowed. That format should be fun to bring back memories of that era of the game, and might make you a little bit more comfortable since that was the era of the game you are most familiar with. Read up on his post about his ideas here: http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=146.0

But yea, keep in touch with me or Onslaught and we can setup a day and time to meet at the con that works for all of us to get as many games in as we can (since i'm sure you will be busy all weekend just doing the normal comic-con things). We really look forward to seeing you there, as we always welcome new players into our circle.

I would love to go to Comic-Con '11 but I have to admit to not knowing 2 things.
1. when is it
2. what are the costs involved (aside from actual travel or lodging)?
