I am trying to make sense out of this one, but I don't know a lot of comic history.

Spider-man has combined with both Carnage and the Silver Surfer.  Silver Surfer has combined with Carnage.  Scorpion has combined with Venom and posed as Spider-man.

At one time they've all had a symbiote costume? (related to Venom?)

I still like the They start with S answer except for Carnage which is a half S.  That is logical.
