Overpower was the first CCG I started collecting, but I have been into several others since then.  I am curious as to what others have played.  The game I got into shortly after Overpower was Magic, which, despite several hiatus, I still collect and play.  I have tried VS, but only a very little bit although I have a lot of cards.  I have played some minor games like Case Closed which has some neat mechanics.

Overpower was my first and last. I only got into it because I liked the Superhero aspect of it. Some friends of mine tried to get me into Magic, but that wasn't meant to be. I had zero interest in spending tons of cash buy another several thousand cards.

So, Palatinus, founder of the Board... don't see you around here much....  :P

My friends got out of Overpower pretty quick.  The last set anyone I played with collected was Mission Control.  It wasn't until a few years ago that I bought up a bunch of cards and have learned about the new card types and such.  I mostly had to change to what my friend were playing and that was Magic.  It turned out I didn't have to spend a ton of money because the local tournaments I played at had cards for prizes and I did pretty well at those.  Nowadays it is pretty easy to get Magic cards cheap.  Overpower too, but only the original few sets.  Spending a ton of money on card games does still suck though.  I have tried to balance that out by selling cards that I am not using.

Yeah, I haven't posted much on this version of the forum.  I posted a lot on the original version, but then website disappeared and I had never made a backup.  After I found out I could download the software for the forum engine and run it on my own site I made this version of the forum but wasn't really doing much with Overpower at the time.

I've played Magic a few times. It's just not the same.

OP lives!

Yea Overpower because I was a big comic book fan back in the day. Afterwards I bought the Star Wars ccg played it once and thought it sucked and never touched it again. Ditto the Mortal Kombat ccg at which point I gave up and just stuck with Overpower.

I did the same thing.  I had a brief stint with Mortal Kombat ccg, but it really wasn't great.  I also collected some of the warhammer 40k ccg which was ok but didn't appeal to me on the level as overpower.

I also tried out the Star Wars CCG, and even though at the time I was way more into Star Wars than comic books I never really latched onto it like I did OverPower.

Back in the day, I used to play the Battletech CCG, and the Austin Powers CCG, but like most of you who have played other CCG's, they didnt stick with me for too long, as i was more focused on Overpower than any other game.

Battletech was a pretty fun game, but Austin Powers sucked (and sadly didnt get a 2nd expansion set :-( )

i feel like adding my 2 cents here.....
i started on OP when it 1st came out in '95.  my brother tried to get me into the Star Trek CCG (i love the show, though not as much as him), but i couldn't get into it.
we then agreed on OP for something to do, since both of us liked the stories and the artwork.  he dropped out at IQ, and i went on to collect 'em all except for 2 tourney promos.
my son tried to get me into magic, but i didn't care for the game mechanic, and the artwork was too dark for my tastes.

Other than OP, I played Magic for a while back in the day. By back in the day, I mean the Ice Age expansion. I played Pokemon and Star Wars a little. Then there were a couple of really little no name ones the comic/card shop got us to try.

But, has anyone heard anything about the Marvel Superstars game that's supposed to be coming out?
I'm polymerized tree sap and you're an inorganic adhesive, so whatever verbal projectile you launch in my direction is reflected off of me, returns on its original trajectory and adheres to you.

I've looked into the Marvel Superstars game and so far it looks like it will go the same was as the X-Men CCG from Wizards.  The game appears to focus on the movie franchises so it is probably just something they are throwing out there to boost movie sales.  For some reason it appears that whenever Marvel wants to develop a new CCG they just start from square one and forget everything they learned the last time.  That's not to say I won't buy a starter deck when it comes out.  Maybe it will turn out to be a really good game.  I think VS is pretty interesting from the little bit that I have played, so this might be fun too.

Palatinus, i agree with you that Marvel never learns.   ???  with what chris & bios have done with homemades and game play, and everybody else's ideas on alternate rules, & just the general interest in a game that's been "dead" for over 10 years, you'd think they'd get a clue and find a way to bring it back & actually develop it for the masses.   :D  if the movies bring in more money, its only because of us "fanboys" spreading the word.  OP could become a juggernaut (pardon the pun) [intended] in promoting storylines (i.e. the "Cape Citadel" crew of "non-characters"), events (i.e. Onslaught leading to the reboots), crossover promotions (read DC & Image here), etc, etc, etc.......  i never bought into Vs, though i did look into it.  And the idea of a Superstars CCG based on the movies does nothing for me.  while the movies are enjoyable, they don't have the same comic-book "feel" that i love.  its a shame they sold the game to WotC (not sure who owns it these days, as if it matters).

Started with Overpower in 96 it was banned at my school in 97 so picked up Battletech. I played that through 2000 (beating Peter Sunholm a former wold champ at a pick up game at DecipherCon 2001.) I stated playing Lord of the Rings TCG (Decipher) in 2001 and in 2002 beat the reigning world champ Mattew Brochu at DGMA Vegas) in 2004 I picked up Vs System but Quit at the JLA/Superman expansion (I got married) and stopped playing competitive ccgs and traveling to Cons. I still love OP the most and am looking to play live matches .... But no real interest.

BigBadHarve

Why was Overpower banned in your school?

A dorm supervior saw an idiot throw down a Typhoid Mary unlucky @ love anyhero in the common room during a pick up game... He found the art distasteful. Since the school was very conservative (similar to Bob Jones University) it was easy for him to talk with the Dean of Men and have it banned.
